The inhabitants in the Southeast Aceh regency consisted of several ethnic groups, the biggest population was the Alas ethnic group than other like Gayo, Singkil, Java, Mandailing, Minang, Karo, Aceh, and Batak.
The person of the Alas came from the Southeast Aceh regency that was usual was acknowledged as the Alas Land. This ethnic group was regarded as the fragment of the Gayo ethnic group. "Alas" words personally in the Gayo language meant the "mat", and this name possibly had relations with the situation of the Alas person that was opened up of the area settlement territory like the mat spread out in Barisan Hill gaps.
